A fine khanjar from Syria during the time around the French Mandate period. Syrian knives are known for their intricate and beautiful mosaic inlays. The curved, double- edged steel blade has a double central fuller transitioning to a medial ridge to the acute point. The hilt is composed in layered segments of brass, goat horn, and bone. Decorated with green and red inserts, nacre, brass strips and nails, and metal alloy stars. Brass ferrule and pommel plate with the pommel having swirled floral designs engraved. The sheath has a full iron sheath with a wooden interior lining. Traditional Syrian niello designs completely cover the iron mounts. Attached are two iron suspension rings. A fine khanjar of great quality and craftsmanship in traditional Syrian construction.
