A fine Berber Arab koummya dagger stamped and dated 1329 from the Imperial City of Merrakech, Morocco. The curved steel blade is single- edged near the base before becoming double- edged for approximately the last half of the blade's length, having a slight medial ridge along the center to the point.
Large bovine horn hilt displaying very nice translucent dark and light contrasting color hues. A massive silver capped lunate in the hanzer style, which is finely chiseled in swirls of Arabesque flowers and scrolls, the silver collar decorated in the same manner. Both sides are hallmarked with the stamp of Merrakech with the hijri date of 1329, corresponding to approximately 1911 on the Gregorian calendar.
The silver sheath is also chiseled extensively in swirls of Arabesque motifs, florals, and scrolls consistent with the hilt. Both sides of the sheath are hallmarked with the stamp of Merrakech and the hijri date of 1329. Very small silver hallmarks (possibly goat's head) are stamped on the hilt and sheath collars. Two iron suspension rings attached, with the original bright reddish- orange cotton baldric sash with knotted fringed ends. A fine koummya dagger of Merrakech, stamped and dated.
